Aikido-L is a discussion list for anyone interested in the Japanese
martial art of Aikido. It is a public, open list that welcomes
novices of a few weeks into the art and the curious as well as
seasoned instructors with decades of experience under their belt.
If you are interested in joining a list with people from all over
the world from various different schools and organizations, you've
come to the right place.
Aikido-L can be considered an informal gathering of people, and
most subscribers treat it as such and not as an "electronic dojo."
Rather, folks tend to view Aikido-L as sort of like an "after
practice gathering" at the nearby Chinese restaurant, pub, or
somesuch place. As such, the topics could range from something
"pertinent" as the effectiveness of kotegaeshi to more
controversial subjects such as the definition of "ki."
However, we do ask that participation in Aikido-L adhere to common
courtesy and mutual respect. Share information and opinions but
please avoid flaming and "my style is better than your style" types
of postings. If you feel you need to "take it outside" or engage
in personal attacks, please spare the rest of the list and move to
private e-mail.
Aikido-L will be unmoderated. However, the list maintainers
reserve the right to exclude (ie, unsubscribe) any person who
violates the spirit of mutual respect.
A word of caution: Aikido-L can sometimes be a very high traffic
mailing list. The number of messages can and sometimes will be in
the range of 50-100 messages a day.
What is the difference between the mailing list and the listserver
(Aikido-L@lists.psu.edu and Listserv@lists.psu.edu)?
Aikido-L@lists.psu.edu (Aikido-L) is the discussion forum where all
ordinary postings goes. Here's where all the discussions are.
Listserv@lists.psu.edu (listserver) is the administrating server where
all technical orders ought to go.
Orders sent to Aikido-L will not be processed and will therefore not
give you the intended result. Likewise, mail sent to the listserver
go straight into the big bitbucket.
